NHL Winter Classic
New Year's Day 2008
On Tuesday, January 1st, 2008 the National Hockey League hosted a
historic hockey game in
Western New York. The Buffalo Sabres played the Pittsburg Penguins at
Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, New York (home of the football
Buffalo Bills). It was the first outdoor hockey game played in the
USA in the history of the NHL. Sidney Crosby's shootout winning goal
lifted the Penguins to a 2-1 victory and two points in the standings.
It was a typical snowy winter day, a very patriotic scene and an awesome
hockey game for the over 70,000 fans who attended. Great memories at
the Ice Bowl.
