NHL Winter Classic

New Year's Day 2008

On Tuesday, January 1st,  2008 the National Hockey League hosted a historic hockey game in Western New York.  The Buffalo Sabres played the Pittsburg Penguins at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, New York (home of the football Buffalo Bills).  It was the first outdoor hockey game played in the USA in the history of the NHL.  Sidney Crosby's shootout winning goal lifted the Penguins to a 2-1 victory and two points in the standings.  It was a typical snowy winter day, a very patriotic scene and an awesome hockey game for the over 70,000 fans who attended.  Great memories at the Ice Bowl.

Intro Players enter the rink with fire and smoke! A crowd of over 74,000 roar with approval.	Game On Both teams walking out from the dressing rooms prepare to take the ice.	Pre-Game Players warm up skate before the game starts.
Oh Canada Doug Allen sings the Canadian National Anthem with huge flag.	God Bless America Tenor Ronan Tynon sings an emotional rendition with the starting lineups on the ice.	NBC The national television broadcast booth.
Pond Hockey Buffalo mascot Sabretooth plays hockey with kids on the small rink.	Gametime A great hockey game was enjoyed by all.	Sabres Fans Thanks Vito for some great photos!

All-Star defenseman Brian Campbell scored the lone regulation goal for the Buffalo Sabres.  Ales Kotalik scored the lone goal in the shootout.  Goalie Ryan Miller, however, could not stop Pens superstar center Sidney Crosby on the final shot of the game in the shootout.
