Western New York Outdoors
Vandermark Description: There are several forested and nature areas, over 9,000 acres of public land, that are popular with Alfred University students looking for outdoor recreation. Vandermark State Forest is located west of SUNY and south of Route 244. Take County Route 10 south (Vandermark Road) to Duke Road. Continuing to a bridge and downstream you will see Vandermark Creek (NYS DEC stocked with brown trout) and state forest signs. It is a small tributary of the Genesee River. Phillips Creek State Forest is nearby on Route 244, northeast of Vandermark, and 5 miles west of Alfred, off Water Wells Road. There is a 13 mile network of hiking, biking and nordic ski trails here with layout near the entrance. Plum Bottom State Forest is west of Vandermark, in Amity, off
Route 19. There are trails off Reddy
Road.
