Western New York Outdoors home

Description:

This forest was once populated by an Indian tribe that vanished with little trace.  Lost Nation State Forest is located north of the hamlet of Centerville on North Hill Road.  You can also access the state reforestation areas from Lost Nation Road and off Pike Road.  It is open to hiking, hunting and camping.  Tributaries of Sixtown Creek cross at Lost Nation Road.  There is a trail and small bridge that snowmobilers, hikers use to go over the stream into the forest.

Located nearby, south of the hamlet of Centerville from Rushford Road, is Swift Hill State Forest.  The Finger Lakes Trail passes thru the forest, excellent for hiking.

Cold Creek State Forest is at the county line on Washburn Road, northeast of Lost Nation off Pike Road.  Hume village was once called Cold Creek.  The stream was named from where it was fed, Cold Spring, by native Indians.  It joins into the Genesee River, east of Centerville, at Fillmore.
