Western New York Outdoors
A Parks and Recreation Guide to locations for
outdoor adventures in WNY.
Hanging Bog
Wildlife Management Area in the Town
of New Hudson, Allegany County.
Description:
There are over 4,400 acres in this WMA. A wetland for hunters,
fisherman, campers, hikers and nature. Much of the region is hilly terrain
with hardwood forests, ponds and marshland. Adjacent to Crab Hollow and
Rush Creek state forests.
One of the best areas as a public
hunting ground for turkeys and grouse in Region 9. The main bog is along New Hudson
Road and Federal Road. There is a small parking area near this
intersection. Much of the surrounding woods are pine forest and the bog
shows alot of beaver activity along Crawford Creek. There is some trout in
Rush Creek in the northern section near the conservation camp. There are
bass, crappie and sunfish in several of the ponds.
