Description:

The Town of Hamburg has several nature areas for easy hiking, biking, fishing or other recreation.  There are many scenic views and opportunities to see wildlife in these wilderness areas.

The Hamburg Town Park and Beach along Route 5 at Mount Vernon requires a resident permit to access.  On a clear day you can view across Lake Erie to the City of Buffalo and the Peace Bridge to Canada.  There is a sandy beach for swimmers, pier, boating launch, fitness center and many great views of the sunset.

Rush Creek starts at Woodlawn Beach then proceeds upstream towards Penn Dixie and further thru the town.  The Boy Scout Pond between Bay View and McKinley Parkway is a nice wooded area for the local neighborhoods.  Heath Pond is behind the church off South Creek Road.  Not too easily accessable, this area is overgrown from the surrounding woodlands.  The Plaza Pond off South Park Avenue is a very swampy and overgrown area, a trail leads to it from behind Mighty Taco.

The old Nike Base Ponds at the Lakeview Rec facility is a nice nature trail to hike.  The ponds behind the model airpark are a little more secluded.  The Versailles Pond is now private property with no trespassing, but once was a nice place to view waterfowl, in the old days.
