Western New York Outdoors
A Parks and Recreation Guide to locations for
outdoor adventures in WNY.
Great Baehre Swamp
State Wetlands in the Town of
Amherst, Erie County.
Description:
The silver maple-ash swamp is a forested wetland used for viewing nature and
hiking. There is parking access, picnic areas, a boardwalk, bike paths and
trails. At the north end of the Wildlife Management Area is Margaret
Louise Park. These suburban wetlands provide excellent wildlife habitat,
as well as a food source, while also providing flood and erosion control.
Directions from the I-290 Exit 5, go east on Maple Road, turn left on Hopkins
Road. The Conservation Area will be on your right after you pass Klein
Road. Further north, before Heim Road on the left side of Hopkins, is the
state wetlands and the Margaret Louise Park bike path.
