Western New York Outdoors
A Parks and Recreation Guide to locations for
outdoor adventures in WNY.
Gillies Hill
State Forest in the Town of Birdsall, Allegany County.
Description:
Over 2,300 acres located within the
SW Lake Ontario basin. Gillies Hill State Forest can be accessed from
County Road 16 to Gillies Hill Road. Turn left, traveling south, on Number One Road.
There is a truck trail, Pettit Forest Road, to your left and another further south off of Terwilliger Road.
It ends with a turnaround loop after a scenic forest view. These trails are excellent to explore and
to view nature.
One hill offers a nice view of nearby Black Creek. Link Creek runs south
of Carson Road.
Another state forest nearby, to the
north, is English Hill. Just follow Old State Road to the Town of Granger.
