A Parks and Recreation Guide to locations for outdoor adventures in WNY.

Emery Park
South Wales in the Town of Aurora, Erie County.

Snow Trails

Description:

A great place to have a picnic and enjoy numerous outdoor activities like hiking, playgrounds, skiing and snowshoeing.  There are facilities for all seasons and shelters can be reserved and rented.  The East Branch of Cazenovia Creek also passes thru the northeast section of the park.

There are two entrances off Emery Road.  The Main entrance is near the service area and the old Emery Inn.  The Secondary entrance goes to Person Drive North and Harrigan Circle to the south.  The northern section has baseball diamonds, tennis courts, xcountry ski trails, and the Ski Lodge.  Richardson Road also has an old historic outdoor ampitheatre.  There are two ravines with scenic views of small waterfalls.  The southern section is a natural wooded area with snowmobile trail, a meadow, ravine, hemlock forest, ballfields, lodge, inn and playgrounds.

Unfortunately this park, like many in Erie County, showed much deterioration during my visit.  It was a shame to see the neglect to another one of our once public jewels in the parks system since 1925.  Shelters, utilities, roads, buildings, trails were all in disrepair.  The only things that look like they are being worked on nowadays is the lawn mowing, garbage removal and road debris removal.  The Master Plan surely didn't read like it looks here today.  However, this is still a fine park.
