Western New York Outdoors
A Parks and Recreation Guide to locations for
outdoor adventures in WNY.
Allegany
State Park in the City of Salamanca,
Cattaraugus County.
Description:
The largest state park in WNY with over 65,000 acres. Lakes, streams,
creeks, woodland forests, cabin camping, and miles of trails make this park an
endless nature retreat of discovery. Hiking, boating, fishing and camping
are just some of the activities for all seasons.
There are numerous
locations to view wildlife by either driving the roadways or via trails.
The bear caves are neat to explore. Stone Tower offers a scenic vantage
point. All the lakes are good for crappie, bass, perch, bullhead and
catfish anglers. Other waters are stocked with brown, brook and rainbow
trout. A special park permit is required, also limited hunting
during specific seasons. Get details from the Administration building.
